MODEL CONTESTS

POPULAR VOTE MODEL CONTESTS

This is a laid-back way to showcase the results of your model building. Unlike NMRA judged contests with set rules and requirements, entries here are only subject to a popular vote by all in attendance with none of the pressures of critiquing or nit-picking. Very simply, the model getting the most votes in each category wins a plaque. As always entries can be in any scale or gauge but must demonstrate the skills of the modeler following the rules of the monthly Bring and Brag contests.

As in past years, the traditional categories of Motive Power, Rolling Stock and Structures are joined by a special fourth category. For 2022 we are bringing back an oldie but goodie from 2014 that was a real favorite then attracting many creative entries…….

“What Can You Do With A Plasticville Kit?”

The rules are simple and what the name of the contest says – what can you do with a Plasticville kit? You may do whatever you want with it in any scale. You can kitbash more than one together, just make one and detail it, weather it, etc. The only rule is that, in keeping with the theme, the bulk of your model must be made from a Plasticville kit (or parts from different Plasticville kits). We’re not going to specify a certain percentage since that’s impossible to determine accurately and we want this to be fun for everyone! The winner will be determined by a popular vote of those in attendance. That means each person may vote on whatever appeals to them. There is no single basis for voting. Their vote may be based on realism, ingenuity, humor, weathering, painting, etc. With that in mind, you can let your imagination run wild! Jim Sacco

So, if you don’t already have an old unbuilt Plasticville kit in your closet or one already built to upgrade, buy one. They are literally everywhere…at the Greenberg Show, local fire hall train shows and hobby shops (if you can find one). Enter it by itself or as part of a small display or scene. It really is a fun contest.
