The October Bring ānā Brag category was Non-Railroad Structures and this brought out three entries:
1st place went to Rick Montgomery for his
HO scale Meadowhead Barn. This is a Walthers Cornerstone kit built and attached to a
Walthers Cornerstone Fieldstone barn base and ramp.
All are painted and weathered using barn red grey and wood brown.
Also added a silo and painted it concrete. Decals are also added to sides and silo.
Cow farmer and hay bale also added inside door.
Turntable/Lazy Susan was a nice idea for display.

3rd place went to Neal Schorr for his
O-scale Auto Repair Garage.
This is a model of a typical small town Pennsylvania automobile inspection station. The model
was built using the kit version of Design Preservation Models "Deuce's Bike Shop." When
assembling the kit, I glued the kit together as with the built up version, but left off all the
motorcycles, signs, and graffiti covered fence all of which give it a typical model railroad/toy-like
appearance. I also painted it brick red rather than buff and then weathered it rather heavily to
make it look like a beat up old building. I did use the dry transfer lettering on the front door which
was relevant to a state inspection station, but sanded it down to make it look weathered. More
than anything, the key feature is the accurate reproduction of a Pennsylvania state inspection
station sign. Though the sign is small in size, it always grabs the attention of visitors to my layout
and clearly identifies exactly what the structure is.
The photos show the structure in place and compare it to the built up structure as available for
purchase.
